As urban explorers with a penchant for historical charm and modern luxuries, we find ourselves drawn to Amsterdam's heartbeat – the Pulitzer Hotel. Nestled amongst iconic canals and timeless architecture, the Pulitzer stands as a testament to Amsterdam’s rich past, yet with a door always open to today's vibrant culture.

From our first step into the lobby, the intertwining of eras becomes evident. The hotel, a collection of 25 canal houses, is a canvas of Amsterdam's illustrious past. Every corner whispers tales of bygone times, while the comforts of our spacious family suite speak a modern, universal language. As kids might dive into the digital amenities, we find solace in the views of meandering canals and rooftops that have seen centuries pass by.

Amsterdam's rich tapestry unfolds as we delve deeper. Established around the 12th century as a fishing village, it soon rose to prominence in the 17th century, known globally as the "Golden Age." The city became a major hub for art, trade, and science. It was during this time that the canal houses, like the ones Pulitzer occupies, were built, symbolizing the city's wealth and culture. Fast forward to the 20th century, Amsterdam emerged as a haven for artists, thinkers, and writers. Many of them frequented places like the Pulitzer, finding inspiration amidst its elegant ambiance and the serene canals.

Yet, it's not all history. The Pulitzer ensures a delightful reprieve after our Amsterdam explorations. We're particularly enamored by the hotel's amenities. The rooms are spacious and as a family you might choose one of the connecting and family rooms with a King bed and two Twin beds. For little children the hotel provides the Very Important Kids pgoramme. For older children there’s a 24 hours fitness room for guests as from 18 years and indoor massage sessions can be arranged. And to exlore the city as locals do, you can rent bikes at the Pulitzer for a reasonable price.

But it’s the Pulitzer’s culinary journey that truly encapsulates Amsterdam’s essence. At the hotel’s signature restaurant, we're introduced to delectable dishes that fuse traditional Dutch flavors with modern techniques. The use of locally sourced ingredients ensures that every bite is fresh and invigorating. Our mornings are graced by the scent of freshly baked pastries and artisanal coffees, and the views of the tranquil canals elevate our dining experience manifold.

Amsterdam is a dog-friendly city. And a great amenity Pulitzer is offering, is that you can bring you (small) dog. The city had many parks and other public spaces where dogs are legally allowed. Pultizer welcomes them as well at a small charge per day, but ofcourse they can’t be in all parts of the hotel and be sure to inform the staff in advance. A little while ago we added a lovely dog to our family, and we can’t wait to let the dog experience the hotel as well.

When it comes to engaging teenagers, Amsterdam's myriad offerings do not fall short. The Anne Frank House, an emblem of history, is a poignant lesson for all ages grounding us in the city's wartime past. We’re also charting a course for the Van Gogh Museum, eager for a splash of color and creativity. Children will love the prospect of exploring Amsterdam’s famous canals by paddleboat. Not only does this promise a unique perspective of the city, but it also ensures a good workout! The city's biking trails are next on our list, as we gear up for a pedal-filled adventure, navigating Amsterdam's iconic narrow streets and picturesque bridges.

A visit to NEMO Science Museum is also on the cards. With its five floors of hands-on science exhibits, it offers a perfect blend of education and entertainment. Our teens can experiment, play, and discover the wonders of science and technology in an interactive setting. The EYE Film Institute is another magnet for our movie-loving teens. Overlooking the IJ harbour, it's not just an architectural marvel but also a celebration of cinematography, offering a unique journey through the history of film.

Other museums here offer a deep dive into diverse realms. The Rijksmuseum stands tall with its expansive collection of art and history, where Rembrandt's "Night Watch" commands attention. Modern art enthusiasts in our group lean towards the Stedelijk Museum, where contemporary pieces challenge and inspire. Our teens, meanwhile, are drawn towards the Tropenmuseum, an ethnographic spectacle that offers insights into various global cultures. For a more relaxed day, the Vondelpark provides the perfect backdrop. With its sprawling green spaces, ponds, and outdoor activities, it's an ideal spot for a family picnic or a leisurely stroll. Teens are often excited about the open-air theatre performances that happen during the summer.

Surrounding the Pulitzer, Amsterdam unfurls its rich palette. The vibrant "Bloemenmarkt" or Flower Market is a burst of colors and scents, reminiscent of Noordwijk's flower fields. Then there are the iconic canals, mirroring the city's essence, and offering a different perspective of Amsterdam by boat. On a lighter note, the quirky and interactive Madame Tussauds Amsterdam beckons. The lifelike wax statues of celebrities and historical figures provide both amusement and numerous photo ops for our family. Amsterdam's "De Negen Straatjes" or The Nine Streets district is another hotspot on our list. This shopping haven, with its vintage boutiques, artisanal cafes, and unique shops, is perfect for a leisurely afternoon stroll. Our teens can't wait to explore the indie fashion shops and hunt for one-of-a-kind souvenirs.

Just take a moment to enjoy the Flowermarket

The city's culinary scene, too, is nothing short of splendid. From traditional Dutch pancakes at a local "pannenkoekenhuis" to international cuisines in the cosmopolitan De Pijp neighborhood, there's a flavor to match every palate. Finally, for a touch of green amidst the urban expanse, we're heading to the Hortus Botanicus. This botanical garden, one of the oldest in the world, promises a serene escape and a chance to marvel at rare plants and beautiful butterflies.

Our days at the Pulitzer weave together threads of exploration and relaxation. But as dusk turns to night, Amsterdam takes on a magical hue. The twinkling lights reflecting off the canals, the distant hum of a city alive with stories and dreams, and the comfort of our rooms at the Pulitzer, create an ambiance of serenity. As we sit by our window, sipping on a cup of Dutch cocoa, we find moments of reflection, gratitude, and plans for future adventures.
