Searching for the right family vacation spot often feels like a grand adventure. What we're after is a mix of comfort, fun, dining, and of course, activities that our teenagers would love. Right now, we’re immersing ourselves in a gem on the Dutch coast – the Vesper Hotel in Noordwijk.

From the moment we walk into the hotel, it's clear that elegance and coziness coexist here. The décor effortlessly bridges modern tastes with timeless charm. Of the 27 uniquely styled rooms and suites, we settle into a family suite. It offers ample space and a breathtaking sea view. Children will be pleased with the free Wi-Fi and smart TVs. Given the soft linens, ambient feel, and modern amenities, we're confident of restful nights ahead.

Nestled along the picturesque coast of the Netherlands, Noordwijk is a treasure trove of natural beauty, rich history, and modern luxury. A harmonious blend of sandy shores and vibrant tulip fields, Noordwijk offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life. But beyond its obvious allure, the town's roots run deep, intertwined with fascinating tales and legends.

Long before it became a beloved resort town, Noordwijk's history traces back to around 2000 BC. Ancient inhabitants, drawn by its strategic coastal location, established settlements that thrived on fishing. Over time, as Christianity spread through Europe, Noordwijk gained religious significance with the establishment of the St. Jeroen's Church. Legend has it that St. Jeroen, a Scottish priest, arrived in Noordwijk in 847 AD to carry out missionary work and was later beheaded by marauding Normans. As a tribute, the church was built in his honor, forever marking Noordwijk as a pilgrim site.

During the 19th century, Noordwijk transformed from a quiet fishing village into a bustling seaside resort. The European elite flocked to its shores, drawn by the therapeutic qualities of its sea air and waters. Soon, grand hotels and villas started dotting the coastline, heralding the town's reputation as the "Riviera of the North."

Although the Vesper Hotel has a beachy aura, its facilities are undeniably state-of-the-art. We're quite taken by the wellness facility. After our day out in Noordwijk, we can't wait to relax in the whirlpool bath. Some of us are already contemplating booking sessions at the in-house spa. With specialized treatments even for teenagers, it's safe to say we'll all be pampering ourselves. Guests also have access to the nearby Azzurro Wellness centre for a refreshing dip in the stunning pool.

After rejuvenating our bodies and minds with Vesper's unparalleled wellness offerings, our quest for indulgence doesn't end there. Seamlessly, the hotel transitions from a sanctuary of relaxation to a culinary haven. The in-house restaurant at Vesper is an immediate hit with us. We find gourmet dishes served in a setting that's both sophisticated and welcoming – truly best of both worlds. What catches our attention is the menu emphasis on local and seasonal ingredients, promising fresh and flavorsome meals. Breakfast here is turning into our favourite ritual. As we indulge in pancakes and fresh fruits, the view of the North Sea complements our meal beautifully.

Even in Winter we are having a perfect time with our children, just enjoying the beach and wind through our hair. Engaging older children can be a challenge, but Noordwijk doesn’t disappoint. With the beach almost at Vesper Hotel's doorstep, in Summer it will be great to introduce the teens to surfing, especially as there are beginner lessons on offer. Not far from there is Europe's first permanent space exhibition, the Space Expo, and we're buzzing with excitement for an interactive space adventure. We're also drawing up plans to delve into the natural beauty of the dunes, considering the marked trails; we might even ignite a friendly family competition in hiking or biking. Additionally, the allure of strategic challenges beckons as we gear up to tackle Noordwijk’s escape rooms, confident that teamwork will be our guiding light.

While Noordwijk's beaches are undoubtedly its crown jewel, the surrounding landscapes are equally captivating. To the east, you'll find the verdant expanse of the "Bollenstreek" or the Flower Bulb Region. Come spring, this area bursts into a riot of colors, with tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths painting a mesmerizing tableau.

The coastal dunes, on the other hand, are a haven of biodiversity. These natural barriers, sculpted over centuries, protect the hinterland from the sea. Today, they are designated nature reserves, providing sanctuary to various flora and fauna. Great for a family hike!
