With close to 100 million visitors across the whole country it is one of the most visited places on earth. So, finding a somewhat quiet spot sounds like impossible. Feather Down Glamping Domaine St Christophe, France

Feather Down Glamping Domaine St Christophe, France

In this hectic life, the holiday is often the time for one to  take things easy:  give more attention to each other and yourself, and more attention to the things one does. Mindfulness is the buzzword nowadays. Today, however, we are  in a tent. The location we chose is situated on the gorgeous Domaine de Saint-Christophe not far from Metz, in the north-east of France. Motorhome Trip North Island, New Zealand

A long-desired wish from our daughters is going to materialize as we head to New Zealand and hire a motorhome. Searching the internet, we find a lot of commercial rental operators, but especially in Summer they are often fully booked or with extremely high rates. That’s when we find Mighway, labelled as the ‘Airbnb’ of the recreational vehicles. Read more…

Finca de Arrieta, Lanzarote Canary Islands

Finca de Arrieta, Lanzarote Canary Islands

Dad, are we really going to sleep in this circus tent?” The tent which our six-year-old believes to be a circus tent, is in fact a real Mongolian Yurt, even though it is not pitched on the endless prairies of the Far East, but on perpetually windy Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands. Read more...

Nikoi Island, Indonesia

"Welcome to Nikoi Island: your private island!”, with a big smile we are helped out of the speed boat and onto the jetty. While our luggage quickly disappears into an old-fashioned cargo bike, we take in the ‘picture postcard scenery’ that stretches out before our eyes. Read more...

Gondwana Private Game Reserve, South Africa

Gondwana Private Game Reserve, South Africa

‘Well, that was a pleasant drive’, says our youngest daughter, who has clearly mastered the art of understatement, when we return to the main lodge of the Gondwana Private Game reserve after a two-hour game drive. It’s now around 8.30 am and we’re perfectly on time for breakfast. The terrace offers splendid views of one of the most stunning landscapes we have ever seen. The Langeberg mountain range and the Outeniqua mountains are just becoming visible when the last bits of fog disappear from around the mountain tops and we can now see the indigenous ‘Fynbos’ (fine-leaved plants) in every direction of our gaze. Almost at once, we spot a giraffe near the farthest row of fourteen suites built in a style clearly inspired by the traditional Khoi-San style of architecture. Read more...

Crescent Moon Cabins, Dominica Caribbean

Crescent Moon Cabins, Dominica Caribbean

Just when we conclude, by mutual consent, that we have definitely taken the wrong turning, a sign with ‘Crescent Moon Cabins’ shows the opposite. Let’s be clear: this is not a luxurious accommodation. If this is what you come for, you will fall short of expectation. But, oh, how beautiful it all is. Read more...
